Montenegro's PM in Hot Water: Scandal Erupts Over Controversial Deal with Terra Founder Do Kwon!

President Milatović Accuses PM Spajić of Misleading Statements Regarding Do Kwon

In a recent interview, Montenegro's President Jakov Milatović leveled serious accusations against Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, claiming he misrepresented his knowledge of Do Kwon, the controversial co-founder of Terraform Labs. This revelation comes in the wake of Kwon’s arrest in Podgorica during a critical period.

Allegations of Ignorance

Milatović asserted that on the day Kwon was apprehended, Spajić denied knowing who he was. This denial is particularly striking given that Spajić had previously been involved in a transaction involving 750,000 Terra Luna tokens and had reportedly met with Kwon on multiple occasions. During a party meeting last March, Milatović confronted Spajić directly about his familiarity with Kwon. The president noted that this denial took place in front of several party officials and current ministers, raising significant concerns about the Prime Minister's honesty and credibility—especially considering his influential position within the cryptocurrency sector.

Connections to Controversial Figures

Adding fuel to the fire, Milatović revealed that Spajić had introduced him to George Cottrell—a British national facing serious allegations in the United States related to money laundering and fraud. Although Cottrell was suggested as a potential advisor for election campaigns, Milatović expressed disappointment over their meeting due to its perceived promotion of “anti-European sentiments.”

A Call for Accountability

In light of these developments, President Milatović has taken a firm stance against Montenegro becoming a sanctuary for criminals. He urged local authorities to take decisive action regarding cases like those involving Turkish nationals Binali Čamgoz and Do Kwon. Milatović emphasized the need for transparency and accountability within government operations to avoid tarnishing Montenegro’s international reputation.

Legal Developments Surrounding Do Kwon

The backdrop to this unfolding situation includes a recent ruling by Montenegro's Court of Appeal regarding Do Kwon’s extradition. The court decided to extradite him to South Korea while dismissing an alternative request from U.S. authorities. The presiding judge determined that South Korea's request took precedence based on an existing extradition treaty between Montenegro and South Korea—this agreement supersedes any arrangements with the United States since it was submitted first. Kwon has faced intense legal scrutiny following the collapse of his blockchain protocol which led to substantial financial losses for investors. The court’s decision announced on August 1 marks an important milestone in what has been an extensive legal battle since his arrest at Podgorica airport back in March 2023.

Market Response: LUNA Classic Price Trends

As this legal saga unfolds, Terraform Labs’ native token Luna Classic (LUNC) is currently trading at $0.000078—a recovery reflecting an increase of 2.3% over the past day and nearly 4% over seven days as market conditions stabilize. However, when viewed over longer periods: LUNC has seen an overall decline of 11% within two weeks but shows gains both month-to-date (up by approximately 11%) and year-to-date (up by around 29%).
